Common Interest
“Common Interest” was inspired by a scene captured with my iPhone between my husband and our little dachshund, Ruger. I had seen the two of them looking out those windows of our Sapphire, NC mountain home like that so many times before but this time was so captivating I decided to paint with color the ambiance evoked in that moment. A grisaille underpainting of Burnt Sienna was used followed by several passes of color to create the ambiance and depth of the room. It was a very complex piece keeping track of all the angles of the light and color temperatures for inside and out. I wanted to retain the warmth and the splendor of the rich ambiance depicted for the painting and I am very pleased with the results. “Common Interest” is more than just a painting, it portrays on canvas what happens when two visions coalesce into one and the bond created as a result.
