1969 was the fourth time in as many years that a Ford GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this time with a MK I entered by John Wyer Automotive Engineering and driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver. The same car had won the race the previous year. The Porsche 908, driven by Hans Hermann and Gerard Larrousse, finished second. The picture depicts the battle that lasted the final hour of the race during which the two cars exchanged the lead virtually every lap.
