Afternoon at the Cove was inspired by the calm shimmer over the water on an overcast afternoon at Lake Allatoona. Painted plein air from my vantage on a solitary bank within Red Top Mountain State Park, it was one of the first days of cool air here in Georgia this year, with just wind and birds in the air. The breeze produced a mesmerizing soft sparkle on the deep green water of the cove, which was brilliant against the Georgia red clay of the banks. I used loose brushwork to capture the scene quickly in breezy conditions, and applied salt to capture the soft dancing light on the water's surface.
