Lone Mountain Ranch in Winter

All winter long, I drive by the stunning entrance of Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, MT, and I am amazed with the various colors of the snow dependent upon the lighting. One day, I stopped and photographed this scene, then came home and immediately sketched the scene. I worked out a good value plan, sketched onto my panel, then returned and painted for a couple hours before yielding to the incoming storm and the cold front. Over the next couple of weeks, I would stop, stare and run home to paint another layer in my studio. This is one of my favorite paintings of one of my favorite places.
