Roots

Roots, Plein Air Acrylic
Roots
Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s Roots, though if you read its meaning, it won’t resonate with the meaning of the painting. I was thinking a lot about my homeland, Romania, when I painted it, and wanted to convey the emotion of having left one’s homeland, whilst still holding onto one’s roots. Vines that seemingly go off into infinity cover the two women, who represent me (they are in fact two opposing dualities of me, wearing opposing colors and laying in opposite directions). You could say that they represent the cultural duality of being an immigrant.
