Discovering the 60's Volkswagen Beetle I had seen 7 years ago was a welcoming sight . I walked around the street looking for a composition that captured the relationship between this classic car and its location parked between these two clapboard buildings .The Fall colors of the scratchy coastal foliage contrasted in texture with the clean lines of the stark simple architecture and picket fence. The drama increased with the warm afternoon light and the raking shadows surounding the glowing VW. I was alone except for the few passing residents walking their dogs and the lobster fishermen in their huge trucks leaving for home. A memorable afternoon in Corea , Maine painting plein air a reaction I felt 7 years earlier.
