Oil painting on clear gessoed linen. Originally I painted this in watercolor several years ago. My then, two young grandchildren were sitting on a rock as we were waiting for their mother to arrive and I snapped a photo knowing that someday these moments would become rare. More recently the image reminded me of my brother and I when we were young and thought of all the things we've been through together. We've been through great joy and serious grief. As we've become older we've become closer, as we were when we were young. So I decided to repaint this image, now being inspired by my own relationship to my brother. We are all in this Together. It was painted Alla Prima with both brush and palette knife, leaving an unpainted edge of linen with a few areas painted to the edge. Sometimes we need to break through the boundaries of life that hold us back.
