Nigellas in pot

This painting was done from life of some nigella flowers. I did a series of five pieces in watercolor and in pen and ink, as the fine serrated leaves and the structure of the flower itself really intrigued me. I felt I was getting to know this flower so well just by studying it from life. I painted this over two days in the afternoon, when the light was coming from the left and back of the pot, so there were dark shadows within the plant itself.
